Thursday's meeting provided a great opportunity for teachers to collaborate after school. Thank you, teachers, for your hard work!
The 2018 Next Generation MCAS results went home for Medfield students this week. While the assessments were administered at Wheelock and reflect student learning Pre K-3, the Grade 3 results were sent home by the Dale Street School where our students are now in grade 4.
The district-wide results are in and our students have, in general, excelled. Next-Generation MCAS is a series of challenging tests designed to measure student knowledge of content and skills that are encompassed in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core State Standards. The work that our faculty has accomplished to align our curriculum and the hard work our students have done to master these skills have proven to be successful. For example, 68% of our Grade 3 students met or exceeded expectations in English Language Arts, and 68% of our students met or exceeded expectations in Mathematics, well above the State averages.
The Department of Education’s website (http://www.doe.mass.edu/mcas, http://www.doe.mass.edu/mcas/nextgen/), provides resources, sample questions, and student responses from past tests that you can use as a reference.
It is also important to remember that this test is only one measure of a student’s understanding and growth. Please review your fourth grader’s scores with this thought in mind.
Please know that Wheelock also is examining the results and will work to meet students needs as we review curricula and instructional strategies. In addition to reviewing and tweaking instructional strategies as needed, please bear in mind that this was the first year our third graders took the MCAS online and we expect to see continued growth in performance as students become more familiar with this format.

Go Sox! Here are some pics from our Spirit Day!
Wednesday's weather was spectacular. It was a great day for these three lucky ladies to enjoy an extra recess outside with me. I enjoyed the beautiful weather too!
Have a great weekend!
