It will be exciting to see how much our new third graders have grown over the summer and it's always fun to meet a new group of second graders! Summer always flies by and I hope you had a great time!
I had an unusual summer. I finally took some time to have foot surgery. Not fun, but needed. It certainly impacted my summer, but I did read!
In addition to those summer beach reads, I've read several great professional books. Two of the books our schools will read this fall are Innovator's Mindset by George Couros and Kids Deserve It by Nelsoney and Welcome. Both books have so many great ideas, I wish I was back in the classroom to try them! We are reading these books as a staff, so I'm sure you'll see some innovative ideas emerge in the classrooms. We are exploring project-based learning and we have a lot of exciting plans for science. This year all classes are teaching Foss Science for some of their topics. As we get underway, I'll be sharing more of our initiatives for the coming year.
It's been fun seeing our staff return. Teachers have been hard at work readying their classrooms. Everyone is so excited to greet the students. We look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday, August 30th. School begins at 8:30, but playground supervision begins at 8:10. Students should not arrive before that unless going to Before-School Care. As noted, Lauren Rogers, Dale Street aide, is our new supervisor. She may be reached at email@example.com.
As the year gets underway, if there's anything we can do to assist you or to help your child's transition go more smoothly, please don't hesitate to reach out to us here at Wheelock. In the meantime, here are some tips to help your child ease back into school year routines.
I hope everyone has a fantastic year!
