ELA MCAS is finished! I do want to let you know our boys and girls worked very hard and did a great job going through the MCAS process. As you know this is the first time the school has administered the assessment online. I can't say enough good things about the support we received from our district technology team, they were fantastic! Communication, and practice on the devices for staff and students was key, and everyone did a great job and we completed our administration for the most part by lunch time.
We will continue with our Math MCAS on May 8 & 9. Thank you for your support in getting your students to school on time.
We are working closely with our PTO on the Kindness Rocks project, encouraging kind behavior. We have implemented mindful moments playing soothing music each day as we start the school day. We also share daily kindness reminders. We are a village and we care about our children. I have said many times that I want every Wheelock student to come to school every day feeling safe and happy. We are working towards that and I do think it is true for the vast majority of our children! Ask your children about Wheelock Rocks on May 4th!
I am so excited to let you know that we will be hosting Heather Abbott, a Boston Bombing Survivor and founder of the Heather Abbott Foundation and Craig Woodhams, motivational speaker to present in a child friendly manner to our students about disabilities on June 4th.Prior to the assembly, I will be sharing a book with the children and prepping them for the assembly along with their teachers.
Heather will be reading a new book to our students authored by Boston bombing survivors who acquired a NEADS service dog as they recovered from their injuries. That is a great connection for us as Franklin comes from NEADS also. We will follow the assembly a few days later with a walk to support the Heather Abbott Foundation which provides prosthetic to those qualifying and in need. As part of our effort to increase diversity awareness and to address social emotional learning concerns. You can see we are committed to educating our whole child. I will be sharing more details and another special connection as it draws near...
Have a nice weekend! Looking forward to Hunter's Run!
