I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving. It is hard to believe that it's December. I wish you a wonderful month!
On December 16th for grade 2 and on December 21st for Grade 3, I will host a light breakfast for any student who received a hoot up to December 2nd. You will be notified and we will work with parents of students with allergies. Breakfast will be available between 8:15-8:45 for those invited who wish to attend.
This month, 5 more students earned some special privileges such as an extra recess, a visit to the library, extra computer time with a favorite game or lunch with his/her teacher. Here are the recipients of the November drawing!
At the end of last year the staff and I continued our conversations about the social and emotional well-being of our students. We all made a committment to support our new motto - Respect, Responsibility and Safety and we agreed to take positive approaches to discipline. In support of all these endeavors, I mentioned in my last post that I submitted a grant to the MCPE about Diversity, Mindfulness and Empathy. The grant expands our literature collections on these topics.
We have many ideas to support our children. Recently I asked each teacher to sign up for a time when I could visit each class to read the book, Friendship Rules. I am so enjoying visiting the children. At the end of each reading the boys and girls and I are engaging in a discussion around the "best" friendship rules. Though different, each class is really generating some great ideas. I am hopeful these conversations will increase students' empathy towards others by discussing very age appropriate topics they can relate to in every day life. Here are some examples of what some of our classes came up with so far. The books we hope to purchase through the grant will support these conversations.
