This week our grade 3 classrooms enjoyed the Pilgrim Interpreters! Thank you to our PTO for sponsoring this awesome group. It is great preparation for the Plimoth field trip!
Today we enjoyed another character assembly. This time our teachers performed skits about expected behavior in the cafeteria, in the hallways and in the classrooms. We believe that showing the boys and girls what is expected is beneficial and more impactful than simply telling them. Thanks everyone! Great job!
We hope all of our friends who celebrate Rosh Hashanah have a nice holiday. Enoy!
I hope you enjoyed visiting teachers during PIN. It was so nice to see everyone!
Here are some photos...
Mr. Slason has been busy getting our students ready for Rocky Woods. The children are learning archery right now!
Today we enjoyed our first Open Circle assembly. Mrs. Olson reviewed the word REFLECTION and reviewed some beginning Open Circle concepts. Mrs. Johnson read the Bucket Filler book to the students! The boys and girls were great!
I'm looking forward to the Fall Ball! Thank you to a wonderful organization for sponsoring such a great event!
Have a great weekend!
Happy Friday Wheelock,
It's been super busy as we continue to help our students learn new routines. Picture day was great! The children looked adorable! The staff descended upon the outdoor play structure for our staff photo this year. Can't wait to see it!
Today we had our first Character Assembly! Our teachers performed skits that go along with our behavior matrix to teach the boys and girls the rules for expected behavior in the the restroom, on the playground and on the bus. On the 30th we will again perform skits focused on behavior in the classroom, hallways and cafeteria. We are teaching the students what it means to be RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE AND SAFE in all areas of the school.
Great collaboration during Art!
A couple of notes...
The Wheelock Remind account you may see is for Staff Only.
Mark your calendars for PIN on September 22nd! Grade 3 will see you from 6:00-7:15 PM and Grade 2 will greet you from 6:45 until 8:00 PM. Looking forward to seeing all of our Wheelock parents and guardians!
Have a great weekend!
We all hope the start of the year is continuing to go well for you!
Important Pick Up Information!
This year Wheelock School will be dismissing at 3:00 pm. We have been dismissing earlier to get used to routines, but that will end very soon.
Also new this year, we have our aides dismissing your children. Our aides' day ends at 3:10. For now, if you are late to pick up your child and it is approaching 3:10, please still park in the Driveway #3 parking lot, but come to the Wheelock front offce to get your student. Students not picked up before 3:10 will be brought to the front office to wait for you.
Today was the deadline, and I only have one candidate for two openings for Grade 2 parents to serve on Site Council! I am extending the deadline. Please consider joining us. For more information, please see the Wheelock Flash.
Lots of fun today with our new transfer students. I hope they are enjoying their new school!
Best part of the principal's job - time with kids!
Great visits to all of our new second graders' classes. They are learning new routines very quickly. You are the best!
Have a great weekend!
Welcome back Wheelock!
It was wonderful to see all of the boys and girls this week! We have many exciting changes at Wheelock School. We love having the boys and girls a little longer and we know the bus issues will resolve in a few days. Kudos to all of our secretaries and central office staff for all of their hard work in making adjustments. These tweaks will continue until the route concerns are resolved. In the end, it will all be fine! We all need to be patient.
At Wheelock the structure of the new morning routine has been seamless and the boys and girls are loving the free play in the morning. I am very pleased with this routine change.
After realizing that there are more buses to manage in the big gym during dismissal, we also are trying a different dismissal procedure. After reflecting on the implications regarding our new traffic pattern for the circular driveway, we decided to try out dismissing from the classrooms and cafeteria at the front of the school. We are observing for the next couple of days to determine which system works best.
I commend my fantastic Wheelock staff for all of their support and effort in assisting with our new procedures. Thank you, everyone!
This year we have chosen Respect, Responsibility, Safety as our motto. A committee of teachers and I have created behavior matrices much like those you'd see from the Positive Intervention Behavior Support program (PBIS). Our teachers are preparing skits to perform for the children to teach expected behaviors in the restroom, the playground, the cafeteria, the hallways, the classrooms and on the bus. These assemblies should be both educational and fun for our boys and girls as we seek to enhance our core social emotional program, Open Circle.
We also purchased owl tokens and lanyards for the boys and girls who get caught being respectful, responsible and respectful. We will maintain our bulletin board and hold drawings for other privileges. Finally we will hold character breakfast once per term for those who have received owl cards. We have discontinued various Good Character Words of the Month.
Important Traffic Flow Note!
Signage is being prepared which will state that the front circular driveway is closed to traffic with the exception of buses and staff from 8:00-9:00 am and from 2:30-3:30 pm. During those two hours, please use driveway #3 and park to the left of the school if you have reasons to visit Wheelock during that time. During the school day, you are still welcome to use the circular driveway and park in 15 minute parking.
New Special Education Information Shared
The Special Education Department has announced that all special education meetings will take place on one day of the week at each elementary school. Wheelock's Team Day will be Thursday and the staff will send out meeting notices very far in advance to enable you to make plans so that you will be able to attend. With the new elementary schedule, we no longer have the early morning time for meetings nor do we have coverage for our classroom teachers. On Team days all classroom teachers having a meeting that day will have coverage.
I hope in spite of our glitches with transportation, your students enjoyed a great first week back. We had a Welcome Back assembly on the first day of school where the children met our mascot, Ralph, and all of our staff. Our second graders are doing nicely and our third graders are old pros. It was great t see the children!
I wish you a wonderful school year. I will be announcing my first Parent Coffee very soon. I hope you are able to attend! Don't forget to save the date for PIN - September 22nd!
Happy Labor Day Weekend,
