Transition Day on Monday proceeded beautifully. We met such lovely children. We can't wait to have them in August. Our service dog, Franklin, joined us to welcome the children!

Thank you for another wonderful year. We are so fortunate to work with so many fantastic families. Here is a recap of some of our accomplishments:
This year we debuted our new Medfield District Strategic Plan. The Wheelock School Improvement Plan is connected to the District Plan:
Goal 1 Collaborative Learning - At Wheelock we have had a Mission Statement and a Vision Statement for several years. This year we added core values: Respect, Responsibility and Safety. We also work as professional learning communities embracing that collaborative model to conduct our work.
So much was accomplished in the content areas - Math PD with our consultant Shephali Fox- teachers focused on math stations and small group instruction; ELA - unpacking the standards; Next year: training in the Benchmark Assessment for Grade 2; Introducing Words Their Way as Grade 3's new Word Study (phonics/vocabulary) program; Science - Foss Kits Science Pilot to continue next year; Social Studies - refining/replacing units aligned to the standards; World Language - 2, 45 minute periods/week, a district Steering Committee explored future plans; Technology - the addition of 25 chromebooks to our lab, each classroom acquiring 5 chromebooks in addition to existing iPads. Chromebooks for staff.
Goal 2 Well-being - Continuation of the Social Thinking curriculum and Open Circle; the addition of Wheelock expectations based on PBIS, posted throughout the school; grants for kinesthetic tools for classrooms, My Family Builder games for classrooms, diversity books for the library and classrooms; Urban Improv performance; Friendship unit; after-school enrichment programs; Mindfulness training for staff; Gender Identity training for staff; Franklin, the Service Dog.
Goal 3 Whole Child - Student fundraisers; Volunteers in classrooms; Principal's Character Breakfasts; Field Day; Night of the Arts; Numerous field trips and assemblies, such as Rocky Woods; Victory Garden.
Goal 4 Community - Eagle Scout project and Girl Scout Projects; collaboration with PTO and MCPE; Food Cupboard donations; Principal's Coffees; PIN, PTO and MCPE Auction donations from staff and so much more!
Goal 5 - Facilities and Equipment - Completion of the boiler project; new furniture; new classroom rugs; new water fountains; painting; Bren Bataclan murals; Safety drills draining.
I've only touched upon just a few highlights, but as you can see, it's been a very busy year at Wheelock. Through it all our focus is on our students and creating a teaching and learning environment conducive to their well-being and enjoyment as we educate the whole child.
I hope you have a wonderful summer and I look forward to working with you in the coming school year!
Good bye everyone!
I hope our children enjoy free time to explore being a kid!
