Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed a great vacation. We have had a busy week with visits from the Bay Colony Educators, our Buddy Readers and we began our PARCC assessments.
Bay Colony Educators
Bay Colony Educators have been visiting Wheelock School for over 20 years. This year, I was particularly proud. One of the presenters came to visit me and commended, not only our students' good behavior, but the bright and clean atmosphere here at school. It has been a Wheelock goal for the past few years to brighten and refresh our school environment. It is very important for a work/school environment to be inviting, especially when our staff and students spend so much time here.
While grateful for the compliment, we continue our efforts. Shortly, the Art Honor Society will unveil a mural they created for us that will reside in the cafeteria. The mural is based on the artistic ideas from our second graders and will be of colorful, healthy foods. Appropriate for the cafeteria! May thanks to our Medfield High School students for their efforts.
Later this year, our boiler project will get underway during the summer months and the first floor grade three corridor and mango gym will be repainted. Further repairs are planned for our circular driveway this summer also.
On this note we want to thank our substitute custodian, Mr. Shayn Robitaille, who was on loan to us from Blake. Shayn did an outstanding job for us and we all will miss him.
Wheelock Buddy Readers
Wheelock supports its volunteers. This year we were approached by a group, Service for a Purpose, who was interested in a project at Wheelock. This group of Blake Middle School boys came to Wheelock every Monday afternoon and acted as Buddy Readers to some of our students. We appreciated their efforts and recognized them today at our Good Character assembly.
Good Character Assembly
Today Mrs. Dion and Miss Farrell and their students presented at our sring Good Character Assembly emphasizing the word of the month, TRUSTWORTHY. The boys and girls did a great job and our boys and girls were so well behaved. Thank you everyone for a fine effort! See the photos below.
On Thursday we started our ELA PARCC assessments. Both days went very well. We complete ELA on Monday. We start the PARCC Math, May 9-12, with make-ups to follow, as needed. Thank you to our parents for having the boys and girls in on time for school and to our teachers who did a fine job preparing the children for their first state assessments. Please remember not to schedule any appointments or trips on May 2, or May 9-12. Thank you!
Thank you to our parents who submitted placement letters. That opportunity has now closed. We will be starting the placement process during our half day on May 13th.
Memorial Book Fair
Thank you to the Memorial PTO for including us in your book fair. We appreciated it.
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Zullo Gallery Medfield Student-Faculty Art Exhibit. Our students' and staff's work is amazing. Kudos to Kate Jones, Art Content Specialist; our own art teacher, Tracey Babin; and the Medfield Public Schools Art Department and our students.
We wrap up ELA PARCC on Monday; we look forward to Jump Rope for Heart on May 4th (Students wear your sneakers!); the Andrea Trasher Mural Open House on May 5th at Memorial School; and later in the week, we host the Boston Museum of Science.
We also want to let you know that due to unforseen circumstances, we needed to move the Wheelock Night of the Arts to June 9th. Please see the Flash _ for further details. We apologize if this causes you any inconvenience.
Have a great weekend,
