I hope you've had a great week! We have!
We had fun at our Principal's Breakfasts. The children were so sweet.
Kudos to our Wheelock teachers and students for all of their hard work to prepare for MCAS. The beauty of the preparation is that our teachers incorporated their regular class work into their daily instruction. Our students acclimated to using the chromebooks easily. We are looking forward to getting started April 3rd. Please ensure your student has had a good night's sleep and a good breakfast. We are starting at 9:00 am sharp. Once testing has begun, students will be unable to join the test. Students will spend their time in the library and take the assessment at a later date. Thank you for your support!
One of our favorite events was a success last night! Thank you to our PTO and all of our volunteers!
Here are some pics!
We work hard to meet the needs of our teachers. Over the past three weeks our teachers have had MCAS training; literacy PD with Jamee Callahan, focusing on guided reading and their administration and the results of the Benchmark Assessment (BAS). Today we worked through the third science topic, Physical Science. Our science leaders have done an amazing job facilitating science for our grade level teams. Today we heard from Katie Clark, a science specialist and we examined the physical science standards.
As the teachers' principal it is important that I too remain current. I was delighted to attend the ASCD National Conference in Boston over the weekend. Colin Powell was a keynote and he was a great speaker. There were opportunities to hear from many great educational leaders such as Doug Reeves, among others. It is always good to take the time to attend conferences when it's possible.
Reminder, today I invited you to write a parent placement letter, if desired. The intent of the letter should be to provide us with more information about your child. We spend hours on this process and while I know we can't please everyone, we do try our best. Please see the letter sent home today for more details. The letters are due by April 13th.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend!
Best you you!
