Today our teachers reviewed our procedures for the school safety drills that will occur this year. This information was disseminated to the children during Open Circle meetings. Our specialists addressed the needs of all students and were present in some classrooms to further support students.

The School Committee meeting was lively on Monday night as Mandarin and Spanish students from Ms. Leblanc and Ms. Liu's classes from Wheelock visited the School Committee to share what they have been learning. This is the first year of the World Language program at Wheelock School.
The teachers shared information about their programs and the children entertained the School Committe with a language and song presentation. Great job, boys and girls! Due to inclement weather, there will be no school in Medfield tomorrow. Enjoy the snow and stay safe!
Due to great feedback and overwhelming initial repsonse, we have invited Chess Wizards back to Wheelock. We hope the winter session will run from February 4th through April 15th (with no class during winter vacation). Our last program ran with approximately 28 students and two teachers and two parent volunteers.
In order for session 2 to run, we request two parents as volunteers to monitor our students. Parents oversee trips to the lavatories, check in attendance and supervise the dismissal process. The safety of our students is of the utmost importance. To that end, volunteers need time to get to know parents and sitters who come to retrieve the students. You may be asked to show an ID more than once, until the volunteers get to know you. Parents or guardians also must sign out students. As the dismissal process and student safety is so important, we will not run the program unless we have parent volunteers to assist the Chess Wizards with dismissal. If you volunteer to supervise Chess Wizards, the program will allow free tuition to your student. Volunteers are selected first come, first serve. Thank you for considering volunteering for Chess Wizards. An after-school chess program is a great opportunity for students that was long requested by families. We are so pleased to offer this program for Wheelock students. Your help is greatly appreciated to make this offering a reality. Welcome back to school! We enjoyed a busy and productive day at Wheelock School today. The snow is beautiful. The children are excited and hoping for a day off. Bus drivers did a great job and all Wheelock bus students left by 3:30. Information regarding a potential school closure will be communicated via our automated phone system. Stay warm and be safe.
