An interesting conversation began at our Site Council meeting this week. How much screen time is too much for our children? I know at Wheelock, I am comfortable that our teachers don't overdo it and maintain a good balance between time on devices and time completing more traditional assignments - reading books, paper and pencil tasks, hands-on projects, etc.
Here is an article from Psychology Today on this topic. A couple of years ago Dr. Marsden brought the film Screenagers to our district. It is worth seeing. Here is an interview and questions based on that film.
We had great experience at Digital Learning Day. Kudos to staff who participated as presenters! We are working to ensure our use of technology and the amount of time we use it makes sense with our students.
Grade 2 students enjoyed Discovery Science presentations on Sound this week. Thanks to our PTO for funding this presentation which supports our Science curriculum.
We have some innovative third grade girls who approached me to start recycling at Wheelock. While we recycle throughout the building, we did not have a recycle bin for plastic bottles in the cafeteria. We enlisted the help of Food Services Director, Dawn LaVallee. With the her help, we are now recycling our plastics during lunch! Thanks to this great group of girls for their efforts! Their efforts earned them Hoots from their principal!
A Principal's Coffee will be scheduled for later this month. The topic will be class placement.
Have a wonderful weekend!
