Happy Holidays to our Wheelock Community!
I hope you are enjoying this special time of year. We have had a busy and fun week at Wheelock leading up to our break. We managed to have some great activities while we wrapped up our current units.
On Thursday we hosted Dress Up for Lunch. The children were so well-behaved and looked adorable. It made a difference! The students were amazing. Thank you for your support.
Later in the day we enjoyed an Open Circle Assembly entitled Light Up Wheelock with Kindness. This presentation was shared by Ms. Connolly's and Mrs. Laliberte's classes.
Teachers were asked to read or listen to Big Al by Andrew Clements with their students. Big Al is rejected by the other fish in the sea because of his size and scary looks. Despite this, Big Al still chooses to be kind and helpful when the other fish need him most.
Teachers were asked to use the story to spark a discussion about differences and kindness. Then they had each student fill out a way to “Light up Wheelock with Kindness” using a light bulb template. The class was asked to string the lights together and bring it to the assembly. The classes hung our strings and Lit up Wheelock with Kindness! Great job! In the assembly we watched two powerful videos about differences. Students were very quiet and it was impactful.
Finally we ended our half day with our holiday celebrations. Throughout this season we have enjoyed hearing about customs and traditions from other lands. Thank you to the PTO and our parents for all of the treats our lovely staff luncheon and wonderful classroom celebrations. We wish all of our students and their families happy holidays and an enjoyable vacation!
