This will be my last post as your principal. My domain will actually expire at the end of the summer so my blog will disappear.
My time at Wheelock has been indescribable. How lucky was I to have such a wonderful career in three outstanding districts? I have absolutely loved my time here. Medfield is a very special community. Today the students and staff honored me at an assembly with an amazing video. With all the places I've been, it was just incredible.
As we part I want to let you know some of my favorite things about your district.
Here are my Top Ten Best Things About Medfield and Wheelock School. This does not include the faculty, staff, students and families, that should be assumed! No particular order...
- Franklin, our service dog
- Rocky Woods
- Night of the Arts
- Winter Carnival
- Medfield Day
- Literacy Night
- Tanglewood Marionettes and Open Circle assemblies
- Field Day
- The new Shade Structure and tables
- The Hoot program and Ralph the Owl Mascot
World Cup Women's Spirit Day!
Two very sweet Wheelock girls encouraged us to have a Women's Sports Day. It was our pleasure to do it! It was fun! These ladies joined in by wearing sportswear! Looking good, ladies!
Transition Day is a great day and it went very well today, but it can be sad for some students and parents. I can't encourage you enough to use this experience as an opportunity to build resilience in your child. Life is not without disappointment and shielding children so they do not develop necessary coping skills only places them at a disadvantage as they grow up and need to navigate far more upsetting events. Here is a link to the Parent Toolkit Social and Emotional Development website page. It may provide some help to guide conversations. A Wheelock parent also recommended a great book I am reading. It's called Raising Lions by Joe Newman, and it is very applicable to a lot of what we are seeing today in our children.
It looks like these new second graders had a great experience!
Last Day of School
Our last day together was awesome. After my part of the assembly, our third graders enjoyed watching the Grade 3 video. I wish them the best for success at Dale Street School. I know our second graders will be terrific role models! Good luck everyone!
Mrs. Caulfield will be leading a very special school. Best wishes to her as she transitions to Wheelock!
Best wishes for the future! Happy Father's Day!
